Talk, try, ticket.

Mentorship in Calgary is usually a person, not a program: a youth coach, a first boss, a journeyperson on a site. This page is the on-ramp. Talk is the conversation. Try is an hour of the work. Ticket is not a product we sell. If the work is a regulated trade, we hand you to Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training. Early days. Some faces on this homepage are illustrative samples. We will not invent a mentor headcount or a Red Seal hour total.

Talk

You pick a Calgarian and you talk. Fifteen minutes, video, no card on file. You hear how they teach. They hear what you actually need. If it is a mismatch you leave. That is the whole point of the talk. If the face is a sample, the honesty line on this page already said so.

Try

If the talk works, you book a paid hour at the price on their profile. One session. The real skill, not a webinar. You pay only if you book that hour. They keep 85 percent. Try is the work. It is not a trade ticket and it does not count toward one.

Ticket

Ticket means the Alberta trades path. We do not issue tickets, keep a Blue Book, or set your hours. That is Apprenticeship and Industry Training. You apply on MyTradesecrets. High school students use RAP. Hours, periods, and exams are on the trade profile AIT publishes. Look them up there. We will not invent them here.

Ticket is a handoff. Not a badge we print.

If you and a mentor decide the work is a ticketed trade, the next honest step leaves this site. Alberta runs the system. We point. We do not pretend to be the ministry.

  1. Become an apprentice (AIT)Choose the trade, read that trade's requirements, apply online. Requirements are flexible and they differ by program. Prior learning has its own assessment if you already did the work somewhere else.
  2. MyTradesecretsThe account where you apply, hold the Record Book (the Blue Book), and see what your employer reports. tradesecrets.alberta.ca is the official door. We do not host a copy.
  3. Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP)High school on-ramp. AIT's RAP page: 15 or older with parent or guardian consent, HCS3000 first, an employer willing to take a RAP apprentice under a qualified journeyperson at least at minimum wage, then your school's off-campus teacher approves the site. The RAP application to AIT is free. They mail the Record Book. AIT states one high school credit per 25 hours of on-the-job learning. That is school credit, not a Red Seal total. Do not treat it as one.
  4. CAREERS: The Next GenerationAIT names them as help finding a RAP employer. Use them if your school coordinator says to. Still AIT registers the apprentice.

How it works

You talk first. If the person is real and the fit is real, you try an hour. If the work is a regulated trade, Ticket is the handoff to AIT. We do not keep your hours. We do not sit in the exam room. We do not call you a journeyperson because you booked a session on this site. That would be a lie.

This is early. Some profiles are samples so the page is not an empty room. When a real mentor is live, the sample line comes off that card. Until then we say it on the homepage, in the title area, and here. Google can read it. So can you.

Who it is for

The kid done with career-day booths who wants to hear a plumber talk like a plumber. The adult already working who wants a trade path without a recruiter in the middle. The newcomer who needs a Calgarian in the chair, not another PDF. The person who has something to teach and is tired of doing it for free in a group chat.
